Uruguayan meat promotions in the Japan market

INAC started a new promotion of Uruguayan meat in the Japanese market. It focuses on 3 restaurant chains and it will be during the summer months now in the northern hemisphere. On July 21, the Steak Gusto chain began, and until the end of August, 250gr Uruguayan beef steaks will be offered.

As of July 29, two more chains will join the promotion, one of Western cuisine and the other more traditional from Japan, in various locations and different cuts.

Likewise, INAC has been working in alliances with different importers with the aim of promoting the brand and origin of Uruguayan meat in Japan. Within this framework, a point of sale promotion has also been activated in supermarket chains. Among them, in Yorkmart, which has a hundred stores in the Tokyo metropolitan region.

The cuts were shipped in chilled cargo and then portioned at destination to supply the sales location. The trays have a sticker indicating the origin of Uruguay, natural, chilled and matured meat, and the logo with the Uruguayan meat brand.

Refrigerated beef exports from Uruguay to Japan totaled 2,168 tons and USD 14 million in the first half of 2021. This means an increase of 55% in volume and 29% in value compared to the first half of 2020.

It is important to highlight that 80% of the exported value corresponds to chilled boneless meat and the remaining 20% to frozen. The Average Export Income (IMEx) was 6,500 dollars per ton. Thus, Japan as a destination represented 1.5% of the value of Uruguay's meat exports in the first half of the year.
